Children under 14 follow a simplified I-693 protocol. The exam is shorter, less invasive, and less expensive than the adult version.

What’s different for children

  • No syphilis serology (required only for age 15+)
  • No gonorrhea NAAT (required only for age 18–24 routinely)
  • No alcohol or drug screening interview
  • Mental health screening is age-appropriate
  • TB IGRA still required for age 2+

What is required

  • Physical examination and growth chart review
  • Age-appropriate vaccinations to CDC schedule
  • TB IGRA blood test if 2 or older

Tips for parents

Bring the child’s vaccination record from their pediatrician. Children who’ve kept up with US childhood vaccinations usually don’t need additional shots at the I-693 visit. Bring a parent ID and the child’s USCIS receipt notice.
