What we book

The Australian Department of Home Affairs requires health examinations through its Bupa Medical Visa Services Panel Physician network. We match you with a Bupa Visa Medical Services clinic (or affiliated panel physician outside of Bupa city locations) so your results upload directly into ImmiAccount via the eMedical electronic referral system.

• 501 medical examination (history and physical)
• 502 chest X-ray (applicants 11+, with exceptions for pregnancy)
• 707 HIV test (applicants 15+)
• 712 Hepatitis B and C serology (where applicable)
• Urinalysis
• Pregnancy considerations and modified workflow if applicable
• Direct electronic submission to Department of Home Affairs via eMedical

Typical cost

$400–$550 USD in U.S. metros (or AUD $400–$500 in Australian capital cities). Cost varies by visa subclass: a student visa (Subclass 500) typically requires only the 501 + 502, while a permanent skilled visa (Subclass 189/190/491) requires the full battery.

When to book

You can book your health exam at any point in the visa process, but the Australian Department of Home Affairs strongly recommends an Upfront Medical, completed before lodging your visa application. Results are valid for 12 months from exam date. The Health Assessment Service (HAP) ID generated by the Department becomes your reference number for eMedical — bring it to your appointment.
