If you’re diagnosed with latent TB infection (LTBI) or active TB during your I-693 exam, your case is not automatically denied — but you may need to complete or document treatment before USCIS will accept the I-693.

Latent TB infection (LTBI)

Positive IGRA with negative chest X-ray. Not Class A — your I-693 can be completed. CDC strongly recommends treatment but it’s not required for USCIS purposes. Treatment is typically 12 weeks (3HP regimen) or 4 months (4R regimen).

Active TB

Positive IGRA, positive chest X-ray, positive sputum culture. This is Class A — you’re inadmissible until you complete a full course of TB treatment and are documented non-infectious. The typical course is 6–9 months.

What about treatment from my home country

Documented treatment completed abroad is generally acceptable if the regimen meets CDC standards and was supervised by a qualified provider.
