USCIS Policy Manual update PA-2023-26 changed I-693 validity rules effective November 1, 2023. Here’s what applies in 2026:

For I-693s signed Nov 1, 2023 or later

Indefinitely valid, provided:

  • The Civil Surgeon signed the form no more than 60 days before the I-485 was filed, OR while the I-485 was pending, AND
  • The Civil Surgeon retains a copy of the form and is current with USCIS designation requirements

For older I-693s

The old 2-year window still applies. If your I-693 was signed before November 1, 2023, it expires 2 years from the signature date.

What if my I-485 is denied and I refile?

If your original I-693 was indefinitely valid and the new I-485 is filed within the validity window described above, you generally don’t need a new exam. Confirm with your immigration attorney.
