Most Australian visa categories require a health examination from a Bupa-approved panel physician. The examination is electronic end-to-end: results upload to the Department of Home Affairs’ eMedical system within 24 hours.

Examinations by visa subclass

Australian visa subclasses 482, 186, 189, 190, 491, 887, and most family visas all require eMedical. Tourist (600) visas usually do not, except for stays over 6 months in certain countries.

What’s tested

Physical exam, chest X-ray, HIV test, hepatitis B and C tests, urinalysis. Pregnant applicants can defer the chest X-ray to post-arrival.

Validity

12 months from exam date.
